Practice Profile

Larry is a Senior Partner at Theall Group LLP, in the areas of commercial litigation/arbitration, insurance coverage and product liability. He is honoured to have been repeatedly selected both as a Lexpert Ranked Lawyer (Product Liability) and for Best Lawyers (Insurance), as well as in Expert Guides in the areas of Litigation, Product Liability, Insurance and Reinsurance. Larry has acted as lead counsel in over 75 trials and hearings, all of which went to a final decision or verdict. He has extensive experience with interlocutory proceedings, including being lead counsel on more than 15 injunctions, a number of which involved Anton Pillar Orders and Mareva Injunctions.

Larry acts for global manufacturers in multiple industries, including automotive, aeronautic, construction and medical devices. He handles class actions and catastrophic losses, and has considerable experience with commercial arbitration, particularly the National Automobile Dealer Arbitration Program.  Larry acts as Insurance Coverage Counsel for the Attorney General of Ontario and regularly represents auto manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers and other fortune 500 companies with respect to insurance, product litigation and regulatory issues. We are proud to include Hyundai, Cessna, and Toyota as current clients.

 

He has received his qualified arbitrators designation ( Q. Arb.) (2018) from the ADR Institute of Canada.

 

He is a co-author of, “Product Liability: Canadian Law and Practice” (2001-19) as well as the insurance chapter for Bullen & Leake & Jacob’s Canadian Precedents of Pleadings, 3rd edition (2017) He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Defence Research Institute, Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society, Risk Management Society and Advocates’ Society, and has been a speaker at programs on product liability and insurance coverage.

 

Larry was Hyundai’s Assistant General Counsel, responsible for all litigation and risk management for eight years. He has been Hyundai’s National Trial Counsel since 1995.  While at Hyundai, he was a member of the legal subcommittee of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (“AIAMC”), and worked on various ad hoc committees relating to safety and alternative dispute resolution.

 

In addition to our primary coverage litigation practice for policy holders, Larry has participated in a number of inter-disciplinary projects involving both risk analysis and alternative risk management structures, captives and re insurance , and assisted clients on a broad range of complex insurance issues.

Larry is an editor for the insurance chapter to be published in Bullen & Leake & Jacob’s 3rd Edition of Canadian Precedents of Pleadings (2017).

He is a co-author of the annually updated loose-leaf text, Product Liability: Canadian Law and Practice (Canada Law Book)
